Cycling

Golf

Golf is an extremely popular sport amongst expats and the Hong Kong Chinese alike.  A great deal of business is discussed over a round of golf, and you'll find yourself at a distinct advantage if you are able to play well.  If you are invited to play, try not to upstage your host by outplaying him or her. 

Most of the courses in Hong Kong are attached to clubs, but allow non-members to play mid-week for a fee (HK$1000) and provided you have a golf club membership from an overseas club and an handicap card. Rugby

Rugby is very popular amongst expats in Hong Kong.  The Hong Kong Rugby Sevens, an annual event hosted by the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union Association, is a major sporting and social event held every March.  Rugby fans from around the world tend to descend on Hong Kong at this time and Lan Kwai Fong and Wanchai, Hong Kong's two entertainment districts, literally heave with revelers.  The South Stand of the Hong Kong Stadium is notorious for its behavior.  For a more civilized experience the private boxes are the place to be, however, where corporate entertainment is at its best.

Tennis

There may be a tennis court in your residential complex but, if not, listed below are some public courts available for hire. If you are a member of a club, you may be able to join a tennis league. Matches are often organized between clubs.

The Salem Open Men’s Tennis Tournament is a nine-day event is held every September and offers some great sports viewing for tennis fans.

Whilst men’s tennis is a popular event in Hong Kong, women’s tennis has yet to take root. There have been some major women’s tennis tournaments in the past but these are not an annual event. For details of women’s tennis contact the Salem Open Tennis Association.
