Hong Kong's wide selection of museums are a great option for a family outing on a wet day. Many of the museums, such as the Science Museum and the Museum of History have specially developed interactive sections for children and guarantee an afternoon of enjoyment and learning. An annual family pass can be purchased at the government owned museums. This pass allows unlimited access to all government museums and represents excellent value. Most museums have guided tours but these are often in Cantonese. If you wish to have an English guide, ring the museum to find out what times English tours are available. It is also worth remembering that all government museums are free on Wednesday, but be prepared for the crowds of school children which visit the museums on this day.

Note: This museum aims to preserve Hong Kong's history with a particular emphasis on the arts and cultural heritage. There is a special interactive section for children as well as interesting exhibits on subjects as diverse as Cantonese Opera and toy-making.

Note: This musuem explores all facets of Hong Kong History. There are wonderful exhibits on the history of Hong Kong wildlife and human habitation. This is an interesting museum for children with interactive displays and life-size exhibits. One of the best exhibits is a reconstruction of a street in Colonial Hong Kong.

Note: This is a great choice for a rainy day with the kids, but beware it gets extremely busy on Sunday afternoons. The museum's exhibits are highly interactive and most kids love it here. There are regularly changing exhibitions throughout the year.
